Being part of a team of two, designing the most popular boat range on the water for 20 years, building one of the best-known boat brands in the world, walking away from it all, and then doing it all over again on your own is no small feat. But that is exactly what Riaan van Helsdingen did.
While the world came to a halt in 2020, Riaan set to work in his garage at home, crafting one of the most desirable speedboats on the water today, the Cascade 196. During the first two years, more than 20 Cascades have seen the water – making this the most popular outboard boat on the water today.
Being known as a creator and visionary in the boating industry, it is no surprise that Riaan is busy designing boats for local and international dealers. A recent visit to Miami International Boat Show in the USA confirmed his ideas and visions are on par with some of the biggest names in the industry.
The production team has a combined 70 years of experience in fiberglass manufacturing, and they love what they do. Their craftsmanship shows through the products they create!

THE CASCADE LEISURE CARAVAN RANGE
Cascade is fast becoming a well-known brand in South Africa. Thus we have decided to rebrand our caravan range from Checkmate Caravans to Cascade Caravans so that all our manufacturing falls under one name.
The caravan side of the business started late in 2017; we have taken it very slowly regarding marketing and social media presence to test the waters, so to speak, playing around with various layouts, colors, and designs.
I think you have guessed it by now – Riaan is the same person that designed the Sensation Caravan range that took the market by storm in 2013. After visiting various European caravan factories, he started using construction methods that caused a revolution in the caravan industry. No wood in the construction. Can you even imagine?
